What Is a Facelift?
A facelift is the process that improves the look of sagging or aging skin around the neck or the face. Some people choose to undergo a facelift to fix sagging under the eyes, jowls hanging below the chin or lower neck, or deep creases across the forehead or mouth. Environmental stresses can often cause the skin to lose its youth, thus causing some patients to have facelifts to get back their youthful glow.
How Is a Facelift Performed?
After general anesthesia is administered, Dr. Pollard begins by making an incision. The placement of the incision depends on the degree of changes desired by the patient. The incision for a traditional facelift is made at the hairline, next to the temples, and extends down to the lower scalp. Dr. Pollard will then sculpt or redistribute the fat inside the face and reposition the underlying skin tissue. The top layer of skin is then tightened and the excess skin is trimmed away. Thin tubes may be present to drain any excess blood or fluids during the procedure.
During recovery, bandages may be placed on the face and medications will be prescribed, along with instructions on how to care for the area during recovery.
