What is Earlobe Repair?
Earlobe repair is a simple procedure that can be done in-office and requires virtually no downtime. It is common for people who wear earrings to snag them on something and cause a small rip in the earlobe, or over time through the force of heavy jewelry, to end up with sagging earlobes. Earlobe repair can quickly and simply fix minor damage, and return a natural appearance to your earlobe to frame your face beautifully. Other times, as trends and personal tastes change, people with gauged ears want to undo the stretched-out look for a more professional appearance. Dr. Pollard’s earlobe repair can return a natural look to your ears no matter what the cause of minor trauma, tearing, stretching, or sagging.

How is Earlobe Repair Performed?
Earlobe repair is a simple, in-office procedure that typically takes about an hour to perform and requires virtually no downtime. Using local anesthesia, the ear area is first numbed for a comfortable experience. Incisions are made within the area of the tear or stretching, allowing for cleaning and reshaping of the trauma area, including the inner tissues, behind the earlobe, and on the front surface of the earlobe. Very fine stitches are used to close the incision and complete the procedure.

What Can I Expect During Recovery from Earlobe Repair?
Take any pain medication, antibiotics, and apply any topical ointments Dr. Pollard may prescribe as directed. You may be asked to wear small sterile bandages for the first few days, and be sure to keep the area as clean and dry as possible in the two to three weeks needed for a full recovery. Dr. Pollard will re-pierce ears in approximately 8 weeks when your ears have healed.
What is Gauge Repair?
A popular reason for earlobe repair surgery is gauge repair. A gauge is a type of ear jewelry that requires stretching the skin to accommodate various gauge sizes. Many patients find that once the gauges are removed, they wish to return their earlobes to their original shape and size. Dr. Pollard offers this service to help patients feel confident and comfortable with their ears again. The procedure is simple and involves trimming down and restitching excess skin on the ear. It can be performed directly in our office using local anesthesia. Typically, the procedure takes 20 –40 minutes and requires minimal recovery time.
