Will a Breast Lift Decrease My Breast Size?

Breast Lift in Philadelphia, PAThe breast lift is one of the most well-known and popular plastic surgery procedures nowadays. That being said, there are still many misconceptions around the procedure and what it can do for our patients. Let’s take a deeper dive into the breast lift, so you know exactly what you can expect during and after your surgery.

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a surgical cosmetic procedure that involves enhancing the shape and position of the breasts on the chest without adding or removing any volume. This means that a breast lift can rejuvenate the appearance of your chest without affecting your overall bra size or the size of your breasts. Patients who receive a breast lift typically wish to have breasts that better suit their natural frame without drastically changing their overall appearance.

What are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

There are many benefits to receiving a breast lift with Dr. Emily Pollard, including:

  • Enhances the overall shape of the breast
  • Lifts the breasts on the chest for a more youthful appearance
  • Does not add volume to the breasts or use breast implants
  • Does not take away from the volume of the breasts or make them smaller

What’s the Difference Between a Breast Lift and Breast Reduction?

Patients who are looking to get a breast lift are typically worried that they will end up losing some volume in their breasts. In reality, patients who wish to remove volume from their breasts will need a breast reduction. Unlike a breast lift, a breast reduction removes excess fat and breast tissue from the breasts to reduce their overall size while enhancing their shape and position on the chest. A breast lift, however, does not remove this fat or tissue resulting in the same size breasts that have a more youthful shape and position.

Can I Get a Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation at the Same Time?

Yes, you can absolutely get a breast lift and breast augmentation at the same time. For patients who are concerned about maintaining their original volume, we sometimes encourage small breast implants to be introduced into the chest during surgery. This will ensure that the patient has the extra, full volume they desire when rejuvenating the appearance of their chest. If you feel this may be the right option for you, we encourage you to ask Dr. Emily Pollard during your private consultation.

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

If you’re looking for a procedure to enhance the overall shape and position of your breasts without affecting their natural volume, a breast lift may be right for you. The best way to find out if a breast lift is right for you is to schedule a private consultation with Dr. Pollard. She’ll be happy to sit down with you, listen to you concerns, and develop a fully personalized treatment plan to help you reach your ultimate aesthetic goals.

We hope we were able to answer some of your questions about the breast lift. If you still want to learn more about the procedure, or believe you’re a good candidate for a breast lift, contact us to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Emily Pollard today. We are also offering virtual consultations, so you can get all of your questions answered in the comfort and safety of your very own home.

Is a Breast Lift Painful?

Breast Lift in Philadelphia, PAIf you’ve been considering a breast lift, you’ve probably also wondered what the healing process of a breast lift involves. One of our patients’ biggest concerns about a breast lift is the pain that comes along with it. We’re here to tell you that you don’t have to be afraid of post-operative pain and discomfort. Let’s take a deep dive into what a breast lift is, what you can expect during your breast lift procedure, and how you can best manage your discomfort following your surgery.

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a surgical cosmetic procedure that involves lifting the position of the breasts on the chest without adding or removing volume from the breast itself. Unlike other breast procedures, a breast lift does not increase or decrease your breast size at all – rather, a breast lift simply creates a more flattering shape and appearance that better compliments your natural frame.

What Can I Expect During my Breast Lift?

Your breast lift surgery will be completely tailored to you, your body, and your desired results. That being said, there are a few things that you can expect during your procedure. Your breast lift will be performed under general anesthesia. Once asleep, Dr. Emily Pollard will make a series of incisions around the breast, through which she will be able to better shape the breasts to enhance their overall shape and position on the chest. She will then close your incisions, and your healing process will begin.

What is Recovery After a Breast Lift Like?

Following your breast lift, you will be asked to wear a special surgical bra. This bra is specially designed to be comfortable and soft enough to not cause irritation following your procedure, but supportive enough to ensure you heal correctly. Dr. Pollard will be happy to provide you with a list of post-operative care instructions prior to your breast lift to ensure you have a quick and easy healing process. Patients typically make an initial recovery after about six weeks, and a full recover after about three to six months.

How Can I Manage My Pain After a Breast Lift?

When it comes to managing your pain following your breast lift, there are a few steps you can take. Dr. Emily Pollard and her team encourage the following:

  • Take prescription medication as instructed. Prescription pain medications can be intimidating, but are prescribed for a good reason. In small doses, these prescription medications allow for pain relief without causing blood thinning or bleeding. Keep in mind that these medications may cause constipation in small doses and can be dangerous when taken outside of Dr. Pollard’s instruction.
  • Over-the-counter medications are great too. Pollard, along with many other surgeons, may recommend taking over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen within the first few days of recovery to reduce swelling and help your prescription medications work more smoothly.

We hope we were able to answer some of your most pressing questions about breast lifts. If you still want to learn more about the procedure, contact us to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Emily Pollard today. We are also offering virtual consultations, so you can get all of your questions answered in the comfort and safety of your very own home.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from Breast Augmentation?

Breast Augmentation in Philadelphia, PAWhen undergoing any surgery, it’s important to remember that the surgery is only half of the process. Recovering from breast augmentation surgery can be just as daunting as the surgery itself if you do not know what to expect. We’re going to take you through each step of the way and what you can expect when you recover from breast augmentation surgery.

The First 24 Hours

Immediately after breast augmentation surgery, it’s normal to feel a moderate amount of discomfort. Keep in mind this can generally be managed with over-the-counter or prescription medication, depending on what Dr. Pollard recommends to you. Your arm movements will be restricted for the first day or two, so make sure you have some easily removable shirts around, like button-down or zip-up tops. Remember you will need to avoid anything that will thin your blood during this time, including nicotine and tobacco.

Five to 10 Days Post-Augmentation

During this period, you’ll typically be asked to do some displacement exercises. These exercises help you achieve a more natural-looking breast augmentation after your recovery. After 48 hours, you should be cleared to drive, so long as you are not taking any prescription medications that can impair your motor skills and you feel physically able to make a sudden turn. Make sure to check with Dr. Pollard before getting behind the wheel. Keep in mind you may have one or two follow-up visits in the first 10 days.

10 to 14 Days Post-Augmentation

This is the point where everything starts to settle and return to normal. You will get the green light to return to work and resume light lower-body exercises and activities. Although you are getting back to normal after recovering from breast augmentation, it is still important to note you should not lift anything heavy or participate in any intense aerobic activities at this time.

Two to Six Weeks Post-Augmentation

About one month after breast augmentations surgery, you’ll begin to see your final results. Your breasts will start to settle into their natural position and you shouldn’t be experiencing much discomfort anymore. At the four week mark, you can also start to transition from your surgical bra back to your regular bras. At about six weeks, you should be able to start more rigorous physical activities again like upper body workouts and running.

Bonus Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips

Keep these in mind when you’re recovering from breast augmentation surgery.

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications, like Aspirin.
  • Once Dr. Pollard gives you the OK, moisturize regularly with the dermHA Therapeutic Creme to avoid stretch marks.
  • Make sure you get lots of rest – this will help speed the recovery process.
  • Avoid sleeping on your sides. Instead, rest upright with pillows behind your back.
  • Don’t be alarmed if your nipples are hypersensitive or lacking sensation after your breast augmentation – they’ve been through a lot and sensation will generally return to normal on its own.

Breast Augmentation Factors to Consider Besides Cost in Philadelphia, PA

If you have been considering breast augmentation, there are several factors for you to consider. However, many people tend to focus solely on cost. While cost should, of course, be an element of your decision-making process, it is by no means the only issue to keep in mind. Here are a few other factors to consider:

Your Doctor’s Credentials

Surgery is not a procedure to be taken lightly, and, as a result, it is important for you to choose your surgeon with the utmost care. When selecting a breast augmentation surgeon, you’ll want to make sure that this is a procedure your surgeon not only specializes in but performs regularly. It is always a good idea to view before-and-after photos to get a sense of the kind of results you can expect. Additionally, you should see if you feel comfortable during your in-person meeting. You are trusting your body goals to this surgeon and should feel confident that they will do the best possible job.

Affordability

Although cost may not be the first issue to consider, it is important to understand how this procedure can work in your budget. At Pollard Plastic Surgery, we strive to make our procedures accessible to all of our patients. As a result, we are proud to accept a variety of payment methods including financing options through CareCredit® and Alphaeon™ Credit.

Safety

Another key factor to consider is the safety of the procedure. While breast augmentation is entirely safe for a wide range of women, there are some medical concerns that may make this procedure more of a risk. The best way to determine your candidacy for breast augmentation is to schedule a consultation. This will allow you to speak with Dr. Pollard directly regarding any extenuating health issues and determine a plan designed with your needs in mind.

Recovery Time

Of course, after the procedure is complete, you will need to give your body plenty of time to rest and heal. This means that you will need to be sure you schedule your procedure during a time when other commitments can be put on hold.

Breast Lift Tape vs. Breast Lift Surgery

Age is not kind to our bodies. Have you started to notice your breasts are hanging a little lower than usual? Or perhaps they have lost their firmness. If so, know you have options and you don’t have to let droopy breasts get you down.

There’s a new fad in fashion that is taking wave and giving women a non-surgical option to lifting their breasts for a perkier appearance. It’s called breast lift tape and, surprisingly, some women are finding it works. This doesn’t mean breast lift surgery is a thing of the past as it still has quite a bit to offer in regards to restoring your bustline.

Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect from both breast lift tape and breast lift surgery.

All Day Lift vs. Permanent Lift

One of the main differences between the two breast lift options is simply the fact breast lift tape is only temporary. As soon as you take the tape off, your breasts will return to their former position. For women who don’t suffer from severely deflated breasts with excess skin, this may be okay for now. If you just want a slight lift to enhance your appearance in an outfit, then breast lift tape may be the answer for you. However, if you have overly large breasts that have begun to sag, you will probably be better served with a breast lift. With a breast lift, you don’t have to worry about allowing extra time to tape your breasts every single day. You’ll have permanently lifted breasts every single day with no hassle.

One Time Cost vs. Multiple Purchases

Yes, a breast lift costs substantially more money than breast lift tape but think about long-term. A breast lift will cost you a one-time fee whereas you will have to continuously buy breast lift tape. Depending on how frequently you wear the tape, you may be paying more in the long run.

Similar Results But Not Really

So, some women claim to receive real lift results from breast lift tape, but when you elect to have breast lift surgery, you’re guaranteed not just results, but personal results. A breast lift can give you the chest you’ve always wanted, while breast lift tape can only give you basic and limited results. One thing breast lift tape cannot do is firm up your breasts and eliminate loose skin. Following pregnancy or extreme weight loss, it isn’t uncommon for women to have loose breast tissue. A breast lift is able to reverse those effects to give you a firm and lifted bustline.

Surgery isn’t right for everyone, but it is important to weigh your options. Contact Dr. Emily Pollard at Pollard Plastic Surgery and discuss your aesthetic goals. Together, you and Dr. Pollard can decide on a treatment plan that will give you the breasts you want and deserve.

Can a Breast Lift be Done Without Implants?

Age along with pregnancy and breastfeeding can take a major toll on your breasts. The breasts that you remember from your 20s are sadly no more, turning into a deflated and sagging reminder of the perky bustline you once had. Fortunately, a breast lift at Pollard Plastic Surgery can help combat some of the effects age and life have had on your breasts. One of the most common questions we are asked is whether or not a breast lift can be done without implants. Simple answer, yes!

Tighten and Raise with a Breast Lift

A breast lift is designed to remove excess skin and lift the breast and nipple to a higher and more pleasing position. Often times with age, gravity takes effect, and breast skin begins to become loose and lax causing the breasts to sag. A breast lift simply perks the breasts back up.

It is common to combine a breast lift with breast implants; however, not everyone that needs a breast lift is in need of breast implants. During a breast lift, the native breast tissue is reshaped and molded, sometimes giving the breast contour a fuller-looking appearance, almost as if you added volume. This alone may give you the breast size that you desire and are comfortable with, eliminating the need for breast implants

For women who want to add volume to their chest or for those who have a more deflated appearance, they may be better served by adding an implant. Breast implants can reduce excess breast skin and tissue while adding volume and increase firmness. A breast lift adds to the procedure by eliminating loose skin.

The important thing to remember when deciding to have a breast lift, breast implants or any other cosmetic procedure, you must do what is right for you. No two people are alike and what is right for someone else may not be what you desire. Breast augmentation is a very personal decision and one that should be made with careful thought and consideration. Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Emily Pollard will help you determine whether you just need a breast lift or if you would be better off adding breast implants to your procedure.

Most patients wake up from anesthesia feeling cooler. Also, choosing comfortable slip-on shoes will make for easier changing before surgery.
