What are Breast Implants?
Breast implants are surgical products that, when introduced into the chest, can help women looking to change the shape or location of their breasts. They are also effective for women who are uncomfortable due to asymmetrical breasts. Women who have had breast tissue removed due to a medical condition can keep the feminine shape developed by the body naturally with synthetic implants.

How are Breast Implants used?
Breast implant surgery adds volume to your breasts while maintaining a natural appearance. The procedure requires the use of general anesthesia, and you go home the same day. Based on your individual needs, Dr. Pollard chooses an incision site that will not only support the goals of your surgical plan, but that also minimizes scars. Incisions may be placed in the natural crease under your breast, along the lower edge of your areola, or in your armpit. Dr. Pollard then creates a pocket for the breast implant either underneath or on top of your chest muscles. The implant is inserted and positioned, and the incisions are closed. After your breast implant procedure, you will be required to rest for a few days. Follow all post-surgical instructions so that you heal properly.
What are the Benefits of Breast Implants?
Breast implants can help patients who suffer from asymmetrical breasts achieve even sizing. Implants are also appropriate for patients who have had breast tissue removed due to cancer or other medical conditions.
Breast size is most often described by a bra cup measurement, but from a medical standpoint, this is not always an accurate way to determine breast size. The reason is that your cup size varies based on the type of bra that you use. A common misconception with breast implants is that the increase in size means an increase in bra cup size – for example, going from an “A” cup to a “C” cup. This approach only leads to unrealistic expectations on the patient’s part. Therefore, Dr. Pollard works with you to determine the implant size that gives you the most natural appearance that complements your body type.
Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implants?
Surgery to introduce breast implants into the body requires the use of general anesthesia, so ideal candidates should be in good overall health first and foremost. Patients who are considering saline breast implants must be at least 18 years of age, and at least 22 years of age for silicone breast implants.
