Top 5 Procedures to Look your Best for the Holidays

Injectables and Fillers in Philadelphia, PAThe holidays are some of the best times of the year. The holiday season means family gatherings, holiday parties and other fun social events. If you want to stand out and make a great impression at your holiday event, you may want to consider a cosmetic procedure. Below is a list of the top five cosmetic procedures, to help you start planning for your holiday season.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a great way to achieve quick rejuvenation results. These treatments are performed within minutes, with results typically visible before even leaving your appointment. Dermal fillers are ideal for restoring volume to the face, giving your lips and cheeks a youthful boost while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If you are looking for a last-minute treatment, this is it!

Botox®

Botox® is the cornerstone of cosmetic procedures. This treatment relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles in the face, resulting in the diminished appearance of wrinkles. Like dermal fillers, Botox® begins to work instantly. However, it can take a few days for the results to become fully noticeable, so you’ll want to plan this procedure a few days in advance.

CoolSculpting®

Have you been exercising and eating healthier but still can’t seem to lose that extra fat? If so, CoolSculpting® might be your solution. CoolSculpting® is a non-invasive, FDA approved device that utilizes cryolipolysis technology to eliminate localized subcutaneous fat. This no anesthesia, no downtime treatment involves freezing fat cells using a controlled cooling method. The full results of fat loss are revealed in about three months.  CoolSculpting® is ideal for treating the back, arms, love handles, bra area, thighs and abdomen.

Liposuction

If you’ve got stubborn fatty deposits, look no further than liposuction. Lipo can eliminate stubborn fat that accumulates as a result of aging, pregnancy or other reasons. With just a single treatment, you can achieve a more contoured and shapely appearance. Liposuction can be used nearly anywhere on the body, although it can take as long as two months for the body to fully recover and your full results to be visible.

Breast Augmentation

A breast augmentation can create a number of aesthetic benefits, producing a more proportionate physique and adding volume and shape to the breasts. The results can be stunningly natural looking, and help accentuate the waist and hips. Although recovery only takes a few weeks, it can take a few months for residual swelling to fully subside. If you’re trying to squeeze in a breast augmentation before the holidays, you’ll want to get started as soon as possible.

Are you Ready for the Holiday Season?

With a range of treatment options, it’s never too late to schedule your cosmetic procedure in time for the holidays. 7 Tummy Tuck Recovery Tips from Dr. Pollard

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Philadelphia, PA

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Philadelphia, PAA tummy tuck is a great procedure to help you achieve a firm, toned abdomen. Although the results are incredible, it is an extensive procedure that requires special care after treatment. To ensure that your tummy tuck recovery goes as smoothly as possible follow these 7 essential tips from Dr. Emily Pollard.

1.      Take at least 2 weeks off of work

Downtime after surgery is essential to proper healing. Dr. Pollard recommends that patients take at least two weeks off of work – or more if they need it. If you return to work too soon, it can place stress on the body that interferes with recovery or may even cause injury. Taking adequate time off ensures you will be physically ready for whatever the workplace demands of you.

2.      Prepare yourself to rest and be comfortable

Being comfortable while you rest and recover will make the process much easier on you and your body. Make sure you have plenty of pillows, and be gentle getting in and out of bed.

3.      Have someone around to help

While recovering, your activities will be limited. For this reason, it can be great to have someone around to help you whenever you need it. Whether it’s for cooking, household chores, or helping you in and out of bed, having a second pair of hands can make recovery much easier.

4.      Get some walking in

Although rest is essential while your body heals, light activity such as walking can be greatly beneficial to the body. This can help prevent blood clots and keep the body from getting stiff or tight.

5.      Focus on good nutrition

Food is directly responsible for how your body performs, so eating healthy foods can help you heal faster and feel better during recovery. In addition to making good food choices, drinking lots of water is an absolute must!

6.      Stop smoking

Smoking can limit blood flow and cause a number of health complications in regards to your procedure. It is necessary to stop smoking for several weeks before surgery, and abstain from it at least through the recovery period.

7.      Listen to your surgeon

At the end of the day, your surgeon is the medical professional. Their specific rules and recommendations regarding your recovery should be strictly adhered to. Following their advice will ensure the smoothest recovery possible – and your body will thank you!

Plastic Surgery and the Social Media Effect

Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia, PA

Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia, PA

Now that social media has been around for several years, it’s clear that it’s a trend that will continue. Today, social media is more used than ever before. Celebrities, adults, teens, and even children convene on various social platforms to join the online community. Social media is flooded with images of users, leading some participants to consider plastic surgery to improve their appearance online.

Social Media & Body Image

Some of the most popular accounts on social media are those of models, pop culture icons, and other celebrities. These people are beautiful, thin, and possess many physical traits that others find desirable. This causes other users of social media to want a similar appearance. The fact is many of these popular social media users have used plastic surgery to achieve their look. The Kardashians, for example, are hugely popular on social media. Several of the Kardashians routinely have plastic surgery, and would not look the same if they did not. This causes many people to have unrealistic expectations of how they are supposed to look.

Body Image & You

Your body image is much more than what you post on social media. With social media playing such a large role in our lives, it’s not unreasonable to improve your appearance for your social media presence. However, it’s important to focus on your own appearance and not let others on social media influence how you think you should look. It can be easy to get lost in photos of your favorite celebrities, but you have many beautiful qualities of your own that don’t need any adjustment. In the end, if you want to change the way your body looks, that’s okay. However, it should be because you want to, not because you feel pressured to by social media.

Plastic Surgery & You

If you feel strongly about achieving a certain appearance, plastic surgery can be a great option to help you get there. Plastic surgery can help you look younger, reduce fat, and even change your facial features. If plastic surgery will help you love yourself and your body more, then it is a great tool for self-improvement. As long as you are doing it for you, and not to impress others, you are a good candidate for plastic surgery.

5 Ways to Look Refreshed This Summer

Summer is a great time to improve your look, as the warmer months are some of the busiest travel months of the year. Before you plan your summer vacation or family trip, consider one of these phenomenal treatments to rejuvenate your appearance.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a gentle, chemical-free exfoliation technique. This treatment removes the outermost layer of skin, which is mostly composed of dead skin cells. As a result, patients experience increased blood flow and increased collagen production. This is great for treating wrinkles, large pores, and creating a smooth, even complexion.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels provide a deep cleansing treatment for the skin. These come in varying strengths, allowing each patient to get the most out of

their treatment. Chemical peels can produce a healthy, radiant glow while removing dirt and oil build up on the face.

Injectables & Dermal Fillers

Injectables and dermal fillers are some of the most popular treatments because they create instant results and require no downtime. These treatments can diminish wrinkles and lines and even increase volume in the face. There are different products designed for different areas of the face, allowing patients to achieve the exact look they desire.

Skin Tightening

Skin tightening is a non-invasive procedure that can create dramatic results with the use of radiofrequency energy. This painless procedure increases collagen production in the skin, creating results that improve over time. With no downtime required, this can be a great solution for reducing wrinkles, dimples, and sagging skin.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing uses heat energy to stimulate collagen production and repair the signs of aging in the skin. This is a versatile treatment that can be used nearly anywhere on the body, resulting in a steady improvement in skin tone and texture after treatment.

It’s Not Too Late to Improve Your Look

Say Goodbye to your Double Chin with Kybella®

Of all the areas to develop fat deposits in the body, the chin is one of the least desired places. This accumulation of fat, referred to as a double chin, can be incredibly stubborn and difficult to eliminate with diet and exercise. That’s why many patients turn to Kybella® to restore their jawline, along with their self-esteem.Kybella® Treatment in Philadelphia, PA

How Does Kybella® Eliminate Fat?

Kybella® possesses a unique formula that is the first and only FDA-approved solution for eliminating the double chin. Kybella® uses deoxycholic acid, which is responsible for destroying fat cells. Once the cells are destroyed, the body breaks them down and flushes them from the system. With the cells eliminated, there is no way for fat to re-accumulate under the chin unless the patient experiences weight gain following their treatment. The ingredients in Kybella® are safe to use on the body and target only the fat cells, leaving surrounding cells healthy and functioning properly.

Is Kybella® Painful?

Like most injectable treatments, Kybella® is generally comfortable. If you are worried about discomfort, a topical anesthetic can be used. There is no pain experienced after treatment and no downtime required, either.

When Will I Notice Results from Treatment?

Kybella® begins to work instantly, and some patients notice results immediately after their first treatment. Typically, however, it can take up to six to eight weeks for the full results of treatment to be visible. In some cases, a series of two to four treatments will be recommended to help patients achieve their desired results. Since the fat cells under the chin are permanently destroyed, Kybella® can be a permanent solution.

Try Kybella® Today!

If you have developed a double chin, you can achieve noticeable results in as little as one treatment. To learn more about Kybella® and other injectable treatments, contact Pollard Plastic Surgery. Dr. Emily Pollard can help determine if Kybella® is the best choice for you, and can have you looking and feeling your best in no time. Those living in and around Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, PA can trust Pollard Plastic Surgery for all of their cosmetic needs.

Botox® for Underarm Sweating: Does it Really Work?

Summer is a great season to spend some time outdoors enjoying the warm weather. Unfortunately, with the heat of the summer months, you better expect to do some sweating, as well. This can come to be quite a nuisance, as you can end up sweating at times when you aren’t even physically active. Sweating can show through your clothes and smell, making it quite undesirable. This Botox in Philadelphia, PAinconvenience leads many people to consider using Botox® to prevent sweating, especially under the arms.

When to Consider Botox®

If you have tried deodorant and other topical treatments to eliminate sweating under the arms and have had no success, it may be time to consider Botox®. Botox® is proven to work by blocking the nerve signals that stimulate your sweat glands and trigger the sweating response. After treatment, you can enjoy dry underarms for months to come.

What is Botox® Treatment Like?

The Botox® treatment is performed similarly to Botox® cosmetic treatments, except it is injected under the arms. This involves a series of injections which most patients find to be quite comfortable. After treatment, just like cosmetic injections, there is no downtime. Patients can return to work and other normal activities on the same day as their treatment.

When Will I Notice Results from Treatment?

Although Botox® begins to work immediately, it can take as long as four weeks for it to fully take effect. After this time, you will notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating. The effects of treatment typically last between six and seven months.

Put a Stop to Sweating

There’s no reason to suffer through the summer months every year with such a simple solution to sweating. To learn more about Botox® or find out if you are a good candidate for the treatment, contact Pollard Plastic Surgery. Pollard Plastic Surgery proudly serves patients in the Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, PA areas.

Top Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men

A common misconception is that plastic surgery is only performed on women.  Although women used to make up the majority of plastic surgery patients, today there are just as many men receiving plastic surgery treatments. In fact, many procedures are designed specifically for men to improve and maintain their masculine features. Here is a list of the top plastic surgeries for men.

GynecomastiaGynecomastia in Philadelphia, PA

Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by a build-up of fatty tissue in the chest area. This can give the undesired appearance of “man boobs”. Gynecomastia surgery can help to remove this fatty tissue and restore a sculpted, masculine appearance to a man’s physique.

Liposuction

Getting older causes many areas of the body to be less responsive to diet and exercise. If this is the case, you may be able to benefit from liposuction. Liposuction can be used nearly anywhere on the body, and can help men regain a lean, contoured figure,

Chin Augmentation

A weak jaw can contribute to a softer, less masculine appearance. Chin augmentations can help create a more defined jawline and fill out the profile of the face. Most men are often surprised at how much their appearance benefits from a simple chin augmentation.

Neck Lift

As mentioned above, a strong jawline is a large part of a masculine appearance. If you have loose, hanging skin on the neck, a neck lift may be just what you need. This procedure can help tighten the neck and improve how you look and feel.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, helps to correct sagging skin on the eyelids and rejuvenates the look of the eyes. Most patients find that this treatment makes them look less tired, resulting in a youthful, vibrant appearance. This treatment can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

Are You Considering One of These Treatments?

Most Popular Non-Surgical Procedures for Generation Xers

As a Gen Xer, you are in your 30s to 50s and may be starting to notice what aging can do to your body. Whether it’s wrinkles, loose skin, or stubborn pockets of fat, there are plenty of non-surgical options to help you maintain a youthful appearance for several more years. In fact, Gen Xers make up for about 40% of all plastic surgery procedures, both surgical and non-surgical. Here are the most popular procedures to help you stay one step ahead of the aging game.

Injectables & Dermal FillersInjectables and Fillers in Philadelphia, PA

Injectables and dermal fillers are some of the most popular anti-aging procedures, and it’s no question why. These treatments often provide instant results, smoothing wrinkles and adding volume to the skin. When performed by a qualified professional, these products can create stunningly natural-looking results. Another great benefit is that there is no downtime required for these treatments. You can expect to return to work the same day, with results already visible in most cases!

Microdermabrasion

If you’re looking for radiant skin in just one visit, consider microdermabrasion, a non-invasive, chemical-free exfoliation process. We use diamond tip microdermabrasion, which is safe for both the body and face, to remove the top layer of the epidermis. The diamond tip is used as a mechanical exfoliant, acting as a tiny pressure washer. In addition to removing the top layer of dead skin cells, the procedure results in increased blood flow, collagen production, and new skin cell development.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels come in a great variety, offering varying levels of strengths. These treatments remove dead skin cells, reducing the appearance of discoloration and wrinkles along the way. After treatment, your skin is left with a smooth, healthy glow. These customizable treatments allow every patient to get the most out of their chemical peel.

Laser Resurfacing

The EndyMed™ laser resurfacing treatment not only gives you smoother, healthier-looking skin, but also improves the tone of your skin. It combines advanced energy-based technology with the precision of a computer-guided treatment to give you outstanding results. The energy from the system heats the layers of skin to stimulate collagen development and repair the signs of aging.

Blepharoplasty Recovery: 5 Things You Should Know

With age comes many unwanted changes. For many, these changes include deepened eye wrinkles. With the help of advanced cosmetic procedures like blepharoplasty, otherwise known as eyelid surgery, your age can go back to being just a number! But, before jumping into this beautification procedure, there are five things you should know.

Preparing for Common Recovery Symptoms

While blepharoplasty is a relatively minimally invasive procedure, there are some common symptoms to expect during recovery. First and foremost, you should expect to experience some swelling around the eyes. Swelling may be minimal at first, but can worsen over time. To prevent further swelling and reduce current swelling, cold compresses and ice packs can help. Typically, swelling will last two weeks. Another common symptom of blepharoplasty is scratchy, itchy eyes. It may also be irritable to blink at first, but continue to do so frequently as this can help the eyes with feelings of dryness and irritation.

Eyelid Lift Before & After Pictures in Philadelphia, PA

Be Prepared to Give Your Eyes Rest

Resting during recovery from a blepharoplasty is a must if you want to recover quickly. So, instead of engaging in activities that you would have to use your eyes, be prepared to find a few other ways to spend your time in recovery. Watching tv, playing games on your phone, and reading all take eye movement. And, during these activities, you may be less likely to blink as frequently as you should during your recovery. Instead, consider activities in which you can find time to rest your eyes, like listening to a book on tape or the radio.

Prepare to Go Without Makeup

Applying and wearing makeup during a blepharoplasty recovery may not be the best idea. Doing so can actually reopen the incision made during the procedure. So, to heal the best way possible and to ensure a fast and effective recovery, you should consider putting your makeup routine on hold for a couple of weeks.

Consider a Few Lifestyle Changes

Because you’ll be recovering from eyelid surgery, there are a few things you will not be able to do, especially in the beginning. These activities include taking a shower, sleeping on your stomach, and inviting pets into the bed at night. Consider your daily tasks and determine which lifestyle changes you’ll need to make after your procedure. This way, you’ll be prepared to make these changes during your recovery.

Prepare to Relax

Most activities will require you to use your eyes. So, it’s important to prepare for a state of relaxation post-blepharoplasty. Vigorous and strenuous activities should be avoided at all costs during the recovery period. Prepare to take it easy for at least two weeks following surgery.

Do’s and Don’ts: Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery

You’ve done your research, made the decision, and you’ve scheduled the date of your breast augmentation surgery. What else is there to do? Well, there are a few things to keep in mind before the date of your surgery arrives. This way, you’ll be prepared to help your nurses and surgeon do their jobs to the best of their ability. And, you’ll have the smoothest breast augmentation surgery experience possible.

Before Your Breast Augmentation Surgery DO:

  • Breast Augmentation and Breast Implants in Philadelphia, PAGet Up Early: Rushing on the big day won’t help keep your stress levels managed. So, make sure to give yourself enough time to pack, prepare, and get to your appointment on time by waking up a little early the day of the surgery.
  • Come Without Makeup and Jewelry: You’ll need to show up the morning of your appointment wearing no makeup or jewelry. As far as clothing goes, choose something warmer. Most patients wake up from anesthesia feeling cooler. Also, choosing comfortable slip-on shoes will make for easier changing before surgery.
  • Wear Your Glasses: Just as makeup and jewelry shouldn’t be worn, contact lenses should also not be worn on the day of your breast augmentation surgery. Instead, show up wearing your glasses. While they will need to be taken off before the surgery, at least you’ll be able to see up until then!

Before Your Breast Augmentation Surgery DON’T:

  • Eat or Drink After Midnight: The stomach should be empty before all operations. So, you shouldn’t eat or drink anything the morning before your surgery. That means from 12 a.m. until after your surgery is complete you shouldn’t have a meal, snack, or even a drink. Prepare for this by eating an early dinner and skipping the glass of water by your bed throughout the night!
  • Miss the Phone Call: Your anesthesiologist will schedule a call to talk to you the night before your surgery. This conversation is imperative to help you gain knowledge on the process of the anesthesia the following day. Without this phone call, many clinics will not even go through with the scheduled surgery. So, be sure to stay near your phone!
  • Worry: You’ve done your research and made your decisions. You’ve wanted this for a very long time. And, you’re doing the best you can to prepare – even reading this article for extra tips! So, don’t worry about the day ahead! Soon, it will all be said and done and you will have taken the next step to being a more confident you!
