Laser Hair Removal

When making the decision to get laser hair removal, you want to be sure you are getting the best treatment for your money.  Our office uses the Lyra-i laser system with a 1064nm wavelength, Nd:YAG laser….what does this mean in layman’s terms?  It means that this is the best technology currently available for hair removal; the 1064 wavelength means it delivers long-pulse laser light down to the follicles destroying them or impairing their growth.  This laser goes below the melanin production, which allows for the best result on all skin tones and most hair colors, with a lower risk of pigmentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during treatment?

Most patients experience a stinging, burning sensation that subsides immediately after the laser pulse is delivered.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments required to obtain optimal results varies with hair density, hair color, skin types, the area treated, and your hair growth cycle.  Since all hair follicles are not active at the same time it is dependent on what is actively growing, this means that you will need several treatments spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.  This insures that we are always working on the actively growing hair each session.

How should I prepare for my laser treatments?

Do not wax, tweeze or remove hair from the follicle bed during the months of treatment. You may shave, trim hair or use depilatories.  Your aesthetician will provide easy pre and post care instructions during your consult.

What should I expect from my laser hair removal treatments?

Once the treatment is complete, you are free to return to your normal routine.  The hair that may still be visible in the treated area must work its way out.  Do not tweeze or pull hair out.  Some patients may experience a slight reddening around hair follicles following the treatment, which typically disappears within a few minutes.  It is recommended to avoid sun exposure and to use sunscreen following the laser treatment.

When can I expect to see results?

Although hair growth is reduced with each treatment, it may take more than one session for your results to be visible. Results will depend on your hair color, skin tone and the body area treated. During your initial consultation, Dr. Pollard will discuss a customized treatment program with you, and outline expectations for your personal results.
