Breast Asymmety

Breast Asymmetry in pubertySometimes during puberty, a young girl may notice that one breast is not developing as quickly as the other.  This can be very distressing to the young woman, causing embarrassment and possibly problems finding properly fitting clothing and undergarments.

Although, this is a benign process and a process probably started before birth, there are many ways to treat this problem.  Dr. Pollard is familiar with breast reconstructive procedures that can be helpful to young women in these early stages of development.  What she usually suggests is a saline filled implant to be placed behind the underdeveloped breasts to allow inflation to allow the breast to catch up with the opposite breast.  This is a delicate time in young women’s development and we do our best to allow her to be confident going forward.  More definitive procedures can be performed when a young woman has reached adulthood or if she is pleased with the result, she can keep the saline implant that she has in place.
